an interview with Roobii

RoobiiTiredAtSunset

Hi Roobi.

Hi.

How old are you nowadays?

I’m almost five months old.

Where did you get your name?

My owners gave it to me.

Right. I guess I meant where did they get it from?

It’s an Amharic name.

What’s Amharic?

It’s the national language of Ethiopia.

So you don’t have a MckBlogname?

Nope.

Why not?

I have no idea. I have no idea what a blog even is. Do you have any treats?

Yeah, here you go.

Thanks.

No problem. What is your favorite thing to do?

It’s hard to say. I enjoy running into the pond, finding things like shorts, boots, balls and banana peels that the kids leave in the yard and bringing them to the back door. I also like sleeping, eating, drinking water and being scratched on my belly. But probably my most favorite thing to do is to chase and torment Stellan.

Don’t you know you aren’t supposed to do that?

No.

Why Stellan?

Because he screams when I chase him.

Doesn’t he know that screaming when you are chasing him only makes you want to chase him more?

No.

Why not?

He’s only two.

What do you think of the MckDoubles?

They smell funny. And are pretty boring.

Have you heard that you are going to puppy school?

Yes, I’ve caught wind of that. I’ve been there already, checking it out.

What did you think?

I thought it smelled great there. And that the trainer man gave really good neck scratches.

So when do you enroll?

I guess I’ll be spending time at puppy boarding school for some of the time my family is gone on their next RV trip. Something about having the family leave me alone while I train makes me learn better. Or something. Do you have another treat?

Sure. Here you go.

Thanks. Anyway, when they come back, apparently I’m going to have really capitalized on my smarts and puppy spunk. The trainer man will transfer the knowledge to my family. And I’ll go home.

So your days of chasing screaming Stellan will soon be over?

Sadly, yes.

Anything else you’d like to say?

Do you have another treat?

pup grows up

As Flurry giggled and guffawed in the swing at the campground today, kicking his chubby legs and holding onto the chains, I felt that familiar twinge of sadness: My baby is growing up.

SmokyMountains-3

I go through this grieving process with each baby. And now? You guessed it. I am finding myself, already head over heels in love with very well behaved Roobii, now bemoaning the fact that she’s already getting to be a big girl. Yup, as you can see in this photo I snapped this afternoon, our well travelled pup is growing up.

Sigh.
