I didn’t really pump that much when I was breastfeeding our first two children. Certainly, even if I would have, the point would have been moot as neither Big Mac nor Nuggey ever took a bottle. Not even once. Not even a teeny tiny swig, even though we tried to feed both of them the few fractions of an ounce I was able to get out somehow. Big Mac nursed until he was one and a half and Nuggey to about a year. When Small Fry came along, nursing was going swimmingly until about four months, when I got pregnant with Stellan. My milk supply took a nose dive. I became a pumper at that point for the first time, although I wasn’t able to get much. It was too little too late, and we ended up supplementing her with donated breast milk from a milk bank.
With Stellan, his medically involved first year of life and the many, many weeks he (and therefore I) spent in the ICU at Children’s Hospitals here and in Boston made pumping regularly neither practical nor necessary. Once Flurry came along, I was determined to do everything I could to bolster my milk supply from the very beginning. I did not want to dry up halfway through his first year, nor supplement him if I could help it. So I began to pump. And pump. And pump. I pumped after every feeding early on and still do on most days. Sometimes, I don’t get anything, but I want to send my body the signal that it ought not start to make less milk. Looking back, I can clearly see that I had milk issues with the other boys, too, but didn’t recognize it as such at the time. I have been determined to make sure I have enough milk for my baby this time, for as long as he wants it.
On most days, I pump about eight ounces more than Flurry eats. And he eats a lot. This is the first time ever I’ve had a stockpile (of my own creation, that is) of breastmilk in our freezer. I really had no idea what we’d use it for, except maybe mixing in with babyfood and feeding it to him once I did eventually stop making milk, which will hopefully be well past the time Flurry is one.
Little did I know when I started pumping that I’d be going to Africa for two weeks while Flurry was still nursing. So the saving up of milk I did is ending up to be very much needed! Flurry has the large freezer drawer full of milk pictured above for Daddy to feed him while I’m away. If everything goes as I hope it will, Flurry and I will renew our breastfeeding relationship as soon as I return. Oh how thankful I am for pumping. And for my MSBP*.
*Many Small Breast Pumps
I have had a few pumps. Some loaned, some purchased, some dead, some going strong. I’m passionate about breastfeeding, and now, I’m passionate about pumping. Not that I love the act of doing it, per se, but I love whoever invented breastpumps. Or I just kind of like and respect him, if it was a guy. Or I, nevermind.
I have a brand new, still in the box, purple Lansinoh double electric breast pump, which sells for around $150, to give away to one of you today.

Use it to create your own stockpile, pump to give to a friend whose baby needs it, or give the purple pump and accessories as a baby shower gift to your expectant cousin. Or something.
To enter, just leave a comment, any old comment, on this post. Whenever I get our kids to bed tonight, I’ll open my computer again, shut off the comments and, without delay, post the winner’s name! My giveaway (not supported or paid for or endorsed or even known about by Lansinoh or anyone for that matter) is open to anyone, regardless of where in the world you live. I’ll ship anywhere! Good luck!

I love breastfeeding! I went strong with my first child and always had more than enough milk for her. My 2nd came along and she wasn’t nearly as enthusiastic about eating, and still at age 2 isn’t. My milk supply slowed down and ended to my dismay when she was only 6 months. I am now pregnant with my 3rd, and am committed like you with Flurry to keep my supply up as long as this little nugget wants and needs it. HOPE I WIN!!
Great giveaway. Would love this.
That’s a really nice one! Thanks for hosting the giveaway!
Hallo! I recently read about Lansinoh pumps being lovely closed-system pumps that won’t allow milk into the motor. Very excited to pump up my supply for our new baby, expected in about six weeks
It is time for me to retire my sad, old hand pump, so this would be wonderful!
My babies always come early and I have to pump… would love to try this one!
Oh boy, do I want that breast pump! I pumped with my first child until he was 1 and continued nursing until he was 27 months. Now expecting my second, the second-hand pump I bought for $60 on Craig’s List just won’t make it through another year for this workin’ mama. It’s one of the only things on my list of things to buy!
Thanks so much for this giveaway!
How perfect!
Interesting giveaway, but so needed for breastfeeding working Moms or Moms like you that need a little help with milk supply.
If I had been able to afford an electric pump when I had my baby I probably would have stuck with breastfeeding longer.
I gave up too early while nursing my first kid, and my second was premature and never took to breastfeeding (I pumped). I became determined to nurse my third kid. She was nursing wonderfully and I was enjoying it, too! Unfortunately, I had a massive postpartum hemorrhage and was hospitalized for two surgeries. I began pumping and dumping until the general anestesia and morphine was out of my system and then I had to work very hard to get my supply back up and to get her back to the breast. It’s going well, but I’m still occassionally pumping to encourage a greater supply. It would be so nice to have this pump, especially when I go back to work.
I am looking forward to the day that I can share with my child the benefits of breast milk. Adopting our first child soon and I want to give this baby the benefits of breast milk. I also hope to donate breast milk to a milk bank at some point.
We found out this last November we where pregnant with our 4th child….very unexpected, just because our youngest starts Kind this August and i’m due August 3! I gave all my stuff away even my pump, and finances are getting hard, and we have to buy all baby stuff again, cause I gave it all away when I got done with it!
A good pump cost alot of money, which we are not able to buy one, my other one was a medlia and I loved it! I was very fortunate to stay home with my last child and be able to nurse her, but with this one I had to return to work to help make ends needs! My husband will have to stay home with the kids in the evening after I have this one and I don’t want to have to use formula, so a pump would be handy! I have a very huge supply of breast milk from past experience and I would hate to see it goto waste and I want my baby to have the best! Thank you again for the time and for what you do, God has gave you a blessing in what you do! You also have very beautiful kids!
I love your story Monica! I just teared up a bit.
I pray that this new baby will bring lots of blessings to your home! May God bless you through friends and family during difficult financial times. I know how that is!
Oh dear. This would come in so handy as I am exclusively breastfeeding my 6 month old and am looking to start my photography business later this year. Having a stockpile of breastmilk for my babe so I can leave him with his Daddy for a few hours at a time for photo shoots would be so great!!! Pick me!!! ….please!
Sounds like this would make a great present!
I think half the people I know are pregnant, and everyone raves about the usefulness of an electric double pump. Great giveaway!
Would love to win this for my cousin and bff Kelly!
Pumping was a life saver with all three of my children! I am one of those crazy people who produce gallons of milk a minute (well, not really!) and always needed to feed my infants and then pump.
I am due in June, with my first baby (Aiden) and will have to return to work soon after he is born. This breastpump would be an awesome addition to the nothing that I have so far
hehe
I would love to win this for my cousin. She is planning to have her 3rd child soon. She’s a surgical tech and needs a new pump for this one because she used her last one til it died. I would LOVE to give her this beautiful gift so she can work and give her baby breast milk. Thanks!
This would be wonderful to have for our impending arrival! I have problems with pre-term labor and that has make me quite familiar with the love/not love mindset of pumping, but to me… giving our children breast milk is a necessity. I think it’s an incredible bond and gift that a mother can provide. I’ve never owned a nice breast pump and would definitely get plenty of use out of it! I think it’s great that you are offering something that supports women to do what is best for baby!
I’d love to give this as a gift!
I had well over 100 ounces of milk pumped and stored at my MIL house when I had my first born…. b/c she had a deep freezer and we did not and we ran out of room in our small fridge in our apartment… I went to go get it all to use and she had left it out of the deep freeze and it all had gone bad…. Every time I think about it I want to vomit and cry!
Oh my gosh – I would be devastated!
I need a pump for returning to work after baby #3 is born in July!
LOVE this giveaway! Baby #2 coming anytime and right now I am planning on borrowing. Would love one of my own!
This would be such an asset to me. I’m 6 months pregnant and determined to breastfeed my second baby. I tried with my first but had low milk supply due to an injury during her birth. The hospital gave her a bottle right away so she never wanted the breast after that. Hoping this time things work out! Thanks for offering this great gift!
I would love this breast pump to use with my 4 month old daughter! I had a breast reduction in 2003 and unfortunately have had to supplement her with formula due to a low supply. I don’t see anything wrong with formula feeding, it’s an individual decision, but I NEVER wanted to be forced into it! It’s so unfortunate, too because she prefers breastfeeding and only takes the bottle kicking and screaming when she’s starved! Awesome giveaway, thanks MckMama!
I am 8 weeks pregnant with #4. I’ve nursed all 3 of the others and plan on doing so with this one as well. I had a Medela Pump In Style with the others but towards the end of the last breastfeeding kiddo it was on its last leg so I don’t have one now. This would be absolutely perfect! AND a God-send!
Would love to win this for any future grandchildren I hope to have. I have a 7 year old grandson and my other two children just give me grand dogs and grand cats !
Thanks for offering this great giveaway! I’d love this! I have a single pump, which works well..but it’s very time-consuming!
I’m due in April with my first baby and would love to win the breast pump!
Would love this!
This would be wonderful for me!!!! I am having baby #4 in 5 weeks and my old pump turns on, but that is about it. What a wonderful gift this would be!
We just found out we are expecting our first child this summer and this would be a great prize to win! Thanks for giving us the opportunity, and also thanks for being such a strong proponent to breast feeding!
we’re due with baby #1 around the beginning of august…i’d love to win this and have one less thing to register for!
would LOVE LOVE LOVE the breast pump for our baby due in July, and LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog! Long time reader, first time commenter!
This would be great! My baby boy is due in mid-March and I haven’t gotten a breast pump yet! Great giveaway!
I would love this! My single works well but it takes a long time!
I am 6 weeks pregnant with baby #2, and I would love a brand new breast pump (instead of borrowing again)! I had milk supply issues with my first born, and he weaned himself at 8 months. I hope to be able to breastfeed the new baby for at least 1 year, and hopefully pumping after every (of most) feedings will help.
I’ll admit it…I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with my frozen milk thrown willy-nilly in a drawer! LOL My sister always organized hers in nice, neat rows with perfect handwriting….Ah, well, cool giveaway!
That is so awesome! I needs one of these bad boys! Am pregnant with #3 and just found out that after two boys, we’re getting our girl!!! Thanks!
What a wonderful giveaway!
Loved your last 2 posts! I won’t need this (sadly, no more babies for me) but have LOTS of friends having babies around here and someone will be thrilled with this!! Love you and your openness…and your humor, too (sarcastic or not)!
That is an awesome give-away! Any women of child-bearing age should be thrilled to win this. Here’s to my luck today
Oh how I’d love to win this pump. The Hubs and I are planning on being pregnant with baby #2 in the next 6 months, and I would love to have my own, up-to-date pump. I used a borrowed, older than I am pump with my first child.
Due in 14 days with #5! Would love this!
Boy, do I ever need this!! My new little one is a month old and I am ready to start pumping now, so I pulled out my pump yesterday. After a few years in storage, all the plastic parts on my pitiful little hand pump are yellow and disgusting!! I was just trying to figure out what I was going to do about it (buy new parts, buy a new pump, rent a pump…) when I saw this giveaway! Hooray!! So…please pick me! Thanks for a great giveaway!
Yay! Great giveaway!!!
What an awesome giveaway!!! Hand pumps are the absolute worst!!! You rock!
That’d be nice to have
You are so generous! What an awesome gift for someone!
I would have DIED without my pump when breastfeeding my 4 sweet babies and now I have the perfect person to give it to as a gift!! A very dear friend of mine is due in the end of April, she’s a teacher and desperately wants to breastfeed her child! She will be able to do it all summer long but still wants to keep it up when she has to go back next fall! What a great gift this would be to her!
My tiny daughter with a tiny appetiate could for sure benefit from that! Also, she is sleeping better now…thanks!
Mine bit the dust last week actually (and after only two babies). I’m hoping to get a new one while in our “big city” next weekend. Until then, I’m using a hand pump (sigh). Maybe I’ll win this one and not have to make a trip to get one.
A friend told me that it would be the perfect time to wean … not at only 10 months. Breast is best!
I am due in June with my second daughter and my first pump broke! I would LOVE to have a new one!
I’m about to have our second baby any day and just happened to be shopping around for a breast pump when I read your latest blog entry. Would LOVE to win this!!! Thanks for the give-away contest!
My husband and I are having our first baby in June and I would LOVE a breast pump!
I used my little sister’s pump until she had a baby of her own two weeks ago. I’m having supply issues, and I’m afraid I’ll dry up completely if something doesn’t change soon. I would LOVE to win a pump as I can’t afford to buy one right now!!
Thinking about trying for number 2 at our house…the pump could come in handy! I bf my firstborn for a year as well….loved every minute of it!
I would very much love to have this! I have been using a friends pump for the longest time!
This would be great for me! Baby #2 is due this year and I’d love to be able to build up a supply like you did to donate or let baby have breastmilk well past 1 year.
I could really use this with a baby coming in a few weeks. Last time I had to quit BF because of supply issues, and I want so badly to make it work this time!
I vote yay on this giveaway!
What a blessing this would be. I’m expecting my first baby in July and have to go back to work two months after. I plan on only breastfeeding and using a pump while at work. I would love to win this!
Now that my first is almost one, I totally get the importance of pumping. Next time around I hope to build up a stockpile as well!
i am in need of a better pump for sure. i didn’t plan on pumping and bottle feeding but ended up doing just that!
I would love to win this pump. It looks a lot smaller than the one I used when pumping for my first two children. Thanks MckMama!!
I am sooooo jealous of your backup supply!! I just dont have it in me to pump after every feeding, but I do have to pump when I am away from my baby at work.
Me too! My ‘stockpile’ consists of about 5 bags at a time!
This would be such a blessing for me to win. I’m expecting out first baby boy in 9 weeks. I’ll returning to work full-time so pumping will be a must!
would love to win, I only had a hand pump with my girls but would love an electric one if I ever have another baby or for a friend! Thanks!
This would be a huge blessing for our family!
Me, Me, Me! Pick Me! I want a new breast pump!
sure would beat the ‘old fashion’ way!!
i’d probably do it a lot more too if it was that easy…
i have three boys, the youngest is nursing (6 months and 21 pounds) i’d say its going good
I would love to win! My pump is on its last leg.
Cool giveaway! I’m pregnant with #4 and would definitely use this… I thought we were done and gave my Pump N Style to my little sister!
I would love to get this to give to my beautiful sister in law who is a military wife pregnant with their first bundle of joy!
If I’ve ever wanted to win anything in life, this would be it! And it is!! The breastpump I borrowed from my sister-in-law is 9 years old and it broke! Baby number 3 is due in July and I’d be sooooo happy to have a pump!!
I have many friends who have just had a baby or who are about to have a baby and it would be a great gift for them. I didn’t succeed breastfeeding with my first two and loved succeeding with my third and pumping came in handy when he was diagnosed with RSV at 2 weeks and they wouldn’t let me breastfeed him b/c his respiratory distress was too much for him to do so. What a great giveaway! Certainly the gift that keeps on giving!
Awesome giveaway! I’m due in September, and will definitely be needing to pump as I’ll be returning to school for my last semester (student teaching) shortly after the birth!
I would love a new breast pump. I am a strong believer in breast feeding your child, whether straight from the breast or thru pumping. I will be preparing my body to breast feed our adopted baby when he or she comes home. I will need a good breast pump to help in the process.
this would be an excellent thing to win!
I would love this pump! My second son is just 5 weeks old and I’ve been trying to build up my own stash. I was online looking at this pump the other day, but I couldn’t justify the expense. Wouldn’t this be ideal?!
Getting ready to have my fourth and would love a nice breast pump!!
It is always amazing to me how the Lord works and how we do things without realizing what they may be for in the future. Always a reason for everything. So neat! Would love to have a breast pump….don’t own one anymore, my last one broke
Enjoy your trip to Africa!! You inspire me so much! Love ya girl!
Tara
It’s worth a try. I’m currently pregnant with #6, and my breastpump (much needed and much used) died after #5 was born.
I’m five months pregnant and will need one soon — would rather win one than buy one!
I’ve never pumped for my own children, but I’ve been wanting a pump so I can donate to our local milk bank!
Ohh! What a great giveaway!
What a wonderful give away! I would love to be able to give this to my sister who is expecting her first child in July. She is nervous about pumping once she goes back to work and I think this would totally ease her mind! Thanks!
That’s quite a stockpile of liquid gold! How are you going to pump while you are traveling and in Africa?
Love your site and enjoy seeing photos of your cute kids!
I’d love to win this for my own trip to Africa, where I’ll need to pump!
This would be a great shower gift!!
YAY!! I am due in july!!
Just finished nursing my little boy that turned 2. I would love to win this for my cousin who is pregnant with twins! Thanks!
It would be perfect win the breast pump. We are hoping to start our family soon, and they would be a great need. I admire all you do for your children.
Thanks for the giveaway!
WOW~that’s a ton of milk stored up! Good for you! When I was breastfeeding, I could never pump more than a few bags just to be gone for the day or so. I would love to give a pump to my sister-in-law who is due with her first baby in April. I’m so excited that she is willing to breatfeed her daughter.
My daughter is due Feb 15th with my first grandchild, she is still in need of a breastpump. I hope I win it for her.
9 weeks 3 days pregnant with my second pnut. We are going to have a 6 year gap, but we are still super excited. I love reading your blog and look forward to reading it each day. Your children are a kick!
Would LOVE to give this to my friend who just posted on facebook TODAY that she is needing a pump to use. They are going to be adopting in the future and she would love to breastfeed this baby just like she did with her two biological children.
I have a dear friend who is pregnant with her first baby and this would be such a wonderful gift for her shower!
A perfect giveaway for me. We expecting our son Cameron in a few weeks and I can’t bring myself to shell out the money for a breast pump. This would be such a blessing.
