Today it rained. Today instead of just one of us taking turns teaching him, my husband and I did Big Mac’s phonics lesson with him together. Today we were proud of him as he learned some new letter teams. Today we officially decided that we are going to hit the road in an RV with our family. Soon. For an unknown length of time. With Atlanta (for we have family there) as the only set stop on our trip. Today I wondered if I would offer photoshoots in Atlanta again this year. (Today I added this addition to my post: Yes, for sure I will blog from the road, sharing our daily adventures and heart changes with all of you!) Today I mused about why there weren’t waterpillows when there are waterbeds. Today I learned that there are waterpillows and that my idea wasn’t all that original after all. Today I wondered why no one ever told me about waterpillows before. Today I smiled a lot. Today our children and I spent the afternoon making something, the recipe for which I made up the other day. Today I was surprised how well it turned out. Today I photographed these ingredients before we made said new recipe. Any guesses what we made?
Today I loved hearing so many of you assert what I know to be true: that nothing is impossible for God. Today I was reminded that we as Christians must be gentle in how we speak to others who frustrate us, otherwise our message of love will be lost in our own hypocrisy. Today I struggled to get Stellan in his jammies after bath while I held a fussy Flurry. Today I could really only sigh when Stellan climbed back into the bathtub with Big Mac moments after I got his diaper and jammies on him. Today I read my Bible for the first time in too long. Today I rejoiced with my friend Sami who will be welcoming her newest son into the world shortly. Today was a new day. Tomorrow will be, too.

I am confused. Are you selling your house and moving into the RV or is this a vacation?
Yes, maybe, we don’t know, I guess we’ll see what happens!
Sorry to be vague, but the truth is, we have no notion yet of where this open door will lead us. We’re stepping out in faith. No idea exactly how long we’ll be gone for or what we’ll precisely do. Just trying to follow Him as a family.
So, and I hope this isn’t a dumb question, but what is the motivation? An adventure or a work opportunity? It sounds fun, a little crazy, but an awesome adventure. But how/why did you come up with this idea??
“Today I read my Bible for the first time in too long.” How can you claim to be following God’s will & direction in your life when you have not been daily immursing yourself in & meditating on His word?
Then, I read through the comments to learn that you are really just going on Sabbatical. It is God’s will we take a rest, why the build up of God’s justification in your actions?
I believe that I am following God’s will and direction in my life, but I don’t always immurse myself daily in this word or mediate on his word a daily basis. Sometimes my life just spins out of control and it feels like to me that I haven’t read my Bible in too long as well. I feel that God brings me back to center out of my spin cycle. I pray daily but finding time to daily immurse myself in the bible is not always easy, I know that it’s always important but it’s not always easy.
Is there only one way to be following God’s will and direction?
I heard from a very wise man that if you only have time to do one, read the bible. It is far more important for you to hear from God than it is for God to hear from you. (Don Whitney)
My question is, how do you know you are following God’s will if you are not immersing yourself in His word (his book of direction)?
I don’t want to criticize mckmama at all. I think that it is awesome she is brave enough to pack up and go! Just responding to the previous poster, you know what, I need to stop leaving comments and go read my Bible!
I think it’s imperative to be reading God’s Word in order to discern His will! I don’t think anyone here disagrees with that. Do we need to read it once a minute? Once an hour? Once a day? Once a week? I’m not sure that is exactly the issue God wants us to focus on, the legalistic side of how many minutes a day or week to read. It’s a heart issue in my book. And to keep our hearts in the right place, we ought to spend time reading the Bible and communicating with God.
I didn’t think too much about the original comment, “Today I read my Bible for the first time in too long, ” because I often feel that way myself. But I don’t understand why, after saying yourself that it’s been “too long,” you feel the need to deflect questions with an exaggerated response like, “Do we need to read it once a minute?” I highly doubt anyone really thought you meant you skipped reading for a few *minutes*. This comment thread did make me wonder though what your definition of “too long” was for yourself?
Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean to deflect questions! Did someone ask me how long I read my Bible each day and I missed it?
Ok, here’s what I am wondering/asking: when you said “Today I read my Bible for the first time in too long, ” – what did “too long” mean? How long had it actually been since you read your Bible? It’s a simple question. A simple answer shouldn’t be that difficult.
I think the last time I read it (before my post yesterday) was last Wednesday or Thursday.
I admit, I have never heard of Don Whitney and a quick google points me to his website that is selling quite a number of books that he wants everyone to read as well.
Your question is confusing to me since I didn’t state that I wasn’t immersing myself in God’s word, just that I wasn’t always able to do so on a daily basis. I believe that I hear from God in a variety of ways, not just through the reading of the bible, I believe that I have a rich relationship with Christ through a variety of reasons.
Are you questioning my belief?
No, not questioning your beliefs, just passing along some wise words. It is hard to fit everything in, I struggle a lot, maybe especially with prayer. Don Whitney encourages praying scripture and that has helped me a lot. (I have not read any of his books yet, just heard him speak and his books are on my someday soon list, especially Simplify Your Spiritual Life)
I definitely do not want to make reading your bible a leaglaistic, how many minutes a day, check it off of my to do list, get me into heaven type of thing. That is completely wrong! Sorry if I came across wrong. I really shouldn’t leave comments!
Yes I wondered this, too. What does immersing oneself in the Word mean? Does it mean we read it every minute? Once an hour? Daily? I don’t think immersing ourselves in the Word has a linear relationship to how many Bible hours we literally clock.
I thank you for the kind thought of passing along what you believe to be wise words, but without knowing the source or the context of those words, I tend to be cautious on my end. Like I said, I haven’t ever heard of him and I see that he is working to sell his message.
I don’t believe there is a checklist or timeline for what immersing oneself in God’s words means to someone. I remember a bible study from a few years ago where the leader greatly supported doing the study in the morning….well that time didn’t work for me and when I explained why I enjoyed ending my day with my bible study, she understood and made it a point not to push someone in their own direction. I think everyone needs to find the balance for themselves.
Sarah – don’t be too hard on yourself. Sportsmom will get the last word on everything. I understood your comment but if you don’t agree 100% with Mckmama, you will definitely get the emails =) I will get more now too….=) I use my delete button.
@Susan – I’m not sure what I have done to deserve that comment from you, not to mention that it’s not true. I’m sorry for whatever I said that caused you to make such comment, that was certainly not my intent in anything I said.
FWIW, I don’t agree 100% with JK either, I have never emailed you, nor do I intend to send one….and I think you totally missed the context of this conversation as well, nobody was being hard on anyone, until your post of course.
hey- let me know if you need any more prep bowls! they will be handy on the road ** wink wink**!
Awesome!!!! Praying for you all!!!
Michelle in KCMO
Not that it’s any of my business, but I am totally puzzled how you can afford to do this? You just lost a major source of income, you’ll still have a mortgage payment while you’re gone, your husband must be taking time away from working and fuel for an RV can’t possibly be cheap. I lost my job a year ago and feel lucky to be able to pay the mortgage every month, there’s no way we could afford to travel like that. I wish I knew your secret of money managing, maybe I wouldn’t worry so much about my lost income. Safe travels!
Be not puzzled! Part of the plan is not only to serve and see the country, but also for both of us to find work on the road. As for our home, we would love to be able to open offer to a family who needs a place to stay for a transition period, for example, but doesn’t have one. We are truly not sure of any of the details, but that’s okay. God is! We are just telling Him: We are here! Use us! We’re open to giving, borrowing, working, serving, going….wherever and however He leads! It’s a huge faith walk, to be sure. When I think about all the details I can get worried, but I have chosen to not fret, just follow. I guess we’ll see what happens and how God shows up to work in this experience.
Not critizing at all, just curious…..What kind of health insurance to ya’ll have with not having a “steady job”?? I would think with Stellan’s prior health issues, health insurance is a must.
Oh, I don’t feel criticized at all! I can’t think of a reason that details about our family’s health insurance would need to be shared, though. Thanks for understanding!
true, sorry…….did not mean to upset you or be inappropriate at all! That was my last intention. I just work in the healthcare field & know how difficult it is these days WITH insurance.
Will be praying for you & your family on this new adventure!!
Oh my goodness. It appears you made healthy pancakes from the comments I saw. You rock because while in my head I would looooove to try this, my stomach and my tastebuds say, “no thanks.” My pancakes are the Bisquick kind and my husband and I are apparently crazy because we put sugar on ours, not syrup. This is how I knew we were meant to be. I know of no one besides my family that just puts sugar on them LOL. So in the healthy department, score: You 1, Me 0 hahahahaha
Hahahaaaa!!! Yes, I totally LOVED Katie’s comment about healthy, colored pancakes! So, we did it! I’m just wrapping up my post about them now, so stay tuned!!
my husband’s aunt puts butter on pancakes then sprinkles sugar on them instead of syrup. she is the only one i’ve ever heard to do this. you are not alone….
Oh we totally do either just butter or butter and powdered sugar, too! Usually just butter. Or butter and honey sometimes.
Awwww it appears I have stumbled upon some of the smartest people ever LOL!! Yay for sugar on pancakes. I guess I can cancel my therapy session to deal with my distaste for syrup
We put sugar on ours too! I love the “melt in your mouth pancakes” recipe on the back of the Bisquik box!
OH YES! Those are sooo delicious!!!
My family puts sugar on our pancakes too! All my friends think I’m crazy for it too.
I had never heard of this until I met my ex-husband. His family had a shaker with a sugar/cinnamon mixture just for pancakes! Some used it plain, and others actually put a little syrup on top of the cinnamon sugar.
ok well that is just awesome!
Come do another meetup in Atlanta!
Hi Mckmama. Our family has been on the road for work (not for a vacation, but we do see what we can!) since 2008 with our MSC. They are ages 6, 6 (twins) 5 and 2 now. I post when I have internet access, but my blog is http://www.roadmommy.com. All I have to say is: I hope you know what you’re getting into!
It can be VERY challenging with MSC. We went on the road with my husband for many reasons, two of which being we just love to travel and want to show the kids the USA. The sad part is, my younger 2 probably won’t remember much of the past 2 years. My older two however, that were three when we began, remember a lot. By the way – their favorite state that we’ve been to was Minnesota last winter (Bemidji) because they loved the snow and sledding!
Feel free to contact me if you have questions about living in an RV with kids or anything, really. We lived in a 30 foot travel trailer (2 bunks, 1 queen and one fold-out bed) for over a year with our 4. It is very liberating to ditch the STUFF and get back to basics. You really have to to make an RV fit this many people, haha. Anyway my email is blaire.gray85@yahoo.com and I’m roadmommy on twitter.
Blaire-I just went to your blog and bookmarked it. Wow- what an incredible journey you have been on. Your family looks so HAPPY in your photos and I can tell you are doing a great job! I will be visiting your blog regularly.
Aw thank you, Tanya. My kids are a happy bunch.
I am so glad we decided to hit the road… I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything.
So excited for you and your family! I can’t wait to read about your many adventures and see all of the many beautiful photos that I am certain you will take. You are correct. NOTHING is impossible with God! Congratulations to you guys on making your decision. Sending support and prayers your way!
any ideas about what you will be doing on the road? speaking engagements, helping people etc?! I am so curious how you will do it!
have fuN! happy trails !
How exciting!
And now for the plea I’m sure you’ll hear from many others–come to Northwest Arkansas! The town I live in (Eureka Springs) is a beautiful old victorian town with lots and lots of beautiful spots for taking pictures. We’ve got the Passion Play, a lake, and lots of cool shops and art galleries in our downtown area.
Also, you could, you know, do a photoshoot or something.
Hi MckMama, Just wondering whatever happened with McFlurry”s big ole tummy!
Hope its doing better. Just wondering. I dont think I’ve missed a post about it but it’s possible I have.
Good luck to you on your adventure! I was reading another blog and saw a link to this company Show Offs Art and though this would be a good canvas for your RV…

Today I went to Cub Foods at 7a.m. because I was craving Halloween candy and haven’t had any, and didn’t have any in the house.
Today I felt my baby kick in a new place, about 3 or 4 inches above my belly button in the center. She has always only kicked (or punched) on my far right or left side because she’s been laying sideways, but now I am wondering if she has started her move down! 11 weeks to go!
I love reading your blog and funny stories about your kids! These are memories that you will never forget! : ) Please let us know if you decided to do anything in Atlanta! As I can let you know of super fun things to do and visit!
Too funny that Stellan went into the tub w/ his jammies on. My 1 year old just did that a week or so ago. I even posted it on our blog! :O) Can’t be mad at the lil’ bogger he just wanted to join his big sister.
BTW…I have no idea what you all are making. My only guess would be dying Easter eggs…but that isn’t very timely, now is it?
This is our first year homeschooling and I love it!!:) Can’t wait to teach my son also. My kids are 6 and 2 now. If it were up to me I would have a house full but somethings are not in my power. It is up to the Big Man upstairs!!:)
I would love it if you would consider an Atlanta “gathering” again this year. I would so be there!! AGAIN!! I would love to meet Flurry and see how much the other ones have grown. Maybe it wouldn’t be so cold and rainy this time. Please do consider!! Also, I love the RV’ing idea. It sounds really cool. I don’t think I could ever do that but you seem to do so great with all of the children and you seem to have ALOT more patience than me. Go for it!!!!!!!!
We just traveled from Illinois, to New Jersey to pick up my elderly Grandparents. My Grandfather is bedridden and on oxygen, and my grandmother has trouble with balance. We brought them back to Illinois with us in the RV, as they are moving in with my parents. ANYWAY, The RV was totally the way to go. It was def. bouncy, but we were able to eat at the table, stretch our legs when stiff, and even go to the bathroom with out having to pull over. My kids got to ride with us to return it and they had a blast. I am ready to buy one after this. We had a totally positive, wonderful experience.
Hey, if you head through the Nashville area you are welcome to stop here. We are 45 miles SE of Nashville, pretty much right on the way to Atlanta. Stop if you’d like.
Amy
I will be anxiously awaiting to hear all about your RV adventures! I think it is great that your family gets to travel and be together.
Take care!
It will be interesting to see what you made with the contents of those bowls.
Exciting about your next family adventure! What was that RV show- Promise Land? It was on in the 90′s. About a family that traveled across country in their RV.
Yay you’re coming to the East Coast!!!!!!!!!!!! woo hoo!! If you get the itching to come to the DC area, please email me, I’d love to meet you!
Blessings on your road trip – sounds so fun
MckMama! that is so cool…you will have so many great adventures, meet incredible people…I’m thrilled for you and your family to be able to pack up and do that…not many families can (or would)…and if you are coming to the ATL again…for thanksgiving???…I want in on a photoshoot if possible!! It would be so fun!
Blessings,
Katie from Tennessee
Looks like your making a virgin version of the skittle vodka on barefoot foodies blog?
As a child, I always wanted to live in our RV and tour the country. Right now, though? Yesterdays 8 hour drive home, that was supposed to be 6 hours, complete with vomiting, leg cramps, and dog farts was quite enough for this family! Hope y’all have an awesome time!
Florida!! Tampa Bay. Photoshoots. Beach!! FUN!!!!
Isaiah 6:8 “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me!”
Could be your family verse, no?
Today I read your blog while eating an apple bran muffin and pumping milk at work
I hope you bring your RV near Washington, DC!
I am with ya…I needed a new day today and I’m determined to turn over a new leaf in my life. Praise God his mercies are new every morning because He knows I make so many mistakes every day I need a fresh start!
Oh man, I don’t think I’d just sigh if one of my girls got back in the tub with jammies and diaper on. There would probably (unfortunately) be lost tempers around here. Good for you for having patience.
http://kandilandblog.blogspot.com
I love it when the Lord is teaching His body about things. Your post re-affirmed what the Lord had dealt with me about in my quite time this morning. He is merciful and kind…and we are to be to! =) Even we are super frustrated with someone we are to step back and be constrained by the Love of Christ. To have compassion for them even when they are not showing compassion themselves. Please make a stop in the Pittsburgh area! I know lots of people who would love a photo shoot!
Are you making rainbow pancakes/cake? Whatever it is; it looks cool! I hope your MckMama Road show comes to Michigan – we’d love to see you and your family.
I have been feeling the urge to serve others; and just not getting a clear message. Perhaps picking up the bible may just give me a little more focus.
I’m so happy for you and your family as you embark on this new adventure….can’t wait to see and hear all about it!
This sounds like an exciting adventure. I can’t imagine doing this for more than 2-3 weeks with my family, but it would be fun for a short trip . I follow a blog of a woman who did this when her kids were younger, they had to stop as the daughter had health problems. She has many stories to tell of those RV days.
Make sure that the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia makes it’s way on to your itinerary, mmmkay? Would love to see you again =) Praying for what sounds like an incredible journey!
Today, I am thankful and grateful for another wonderful post from you. One filled with insight, love, compassion and hope.
Good for you, and your family, for doing what you feel the Lord has called you to do. Many blessings to you and your family always.
I’ll be checking often for more of your wonderful posts, especially those about your coming RV Adventures.
This sounds perfect for you guys! I would love to do this someday and it might actually be possible with my husbands job. If you come through Ohio we would love to give you a place to park/do laundry/have meal/sleep in a real bed…and we have lots of woods the kids can run in.
Can’t wait to hear all about this trip!
Is it rainbow cake? I think it would be fun to live in an RV:)
Exciting news! Do you already own an RV? Will you sell your house? So many questions now! What about Prince Charming’s business? Do tell!!!!
Please don’t make me guess! I am so bad at this! Happy week to you, it is raining in our Frozen Tundra too.
I think it’s a great idea. It looks as if you could travel anywhere, do photoshoots, and generate some serious income! I think THAT’S a great idea.
I’m sure it’s not your main reason for wanting to do this, but the Lord can use anything to bless you.
And man, if anyone needs/deserves to be blessed, it is YOU!
Williamsburg is very close, and has TONS of educational stuff for your kids. I would pay out the nose for a photoshoot with you. Not that I’d have to, cause I know you wouldn’t charge me more just cause I said that.
So, after all that buttering up…will you come through the Hampton Roads area of VA?
Hugs to you and your family!!!
That is so very exciting! Soapy and I have talked about the RV thing a lot in the past. We actually thought about it instead of this house….but it’s just not the right time in our lives I guess. I can’t wait to hear how God uses y’all as a family to carry out His plan. Invigorating isn’t it?
You know y’all always have a place here.
Feel free to come any time. We can show y’all some amazing places in the mtns and some of the history here. We have a pretty great place for ice fishing too.
Today, I spent time snugglng my son. Today I prayed quite a bit for various ppl. Today God blessed my new found business with a team member; can’t wait to see Him work through this in the future.
Did you make paint? With food? ….Bible…yes…my son is almost 7 weeks old and I haven’t picked up my Bible since before he was born…we haven’t made it back to church yet, either…next Sunday is the DAY! But, I have been really down latley and I know part of it is because I haven’t been in His Word…need to crack open the One Year Bible…tonight!
Awesome!! Up until a few years ago I never thought about an RV, but since my parents own and operate a KOA RV park and campground and bought their own RV to travel in the off season. It will a great adventure and learning experience of a lifetime. Actually I have heard of a few homeschooling families who traveled in an RV to teach about US history and geography.
Take me with you!?!?
I am SO excited we get to follow along on your journey!
Bless you and your family in every decision you make! Please keep us posted on where you go…I can’t wait to read about your adventures! I’ve always wanted to just buy an RV and GO, so I live vicariously through those who get to travel! I’m 5.5 hours south of Atlanta on the Gulf Coast and would love to give you and your kiddos a big ‘ol hug…I hope that will be possible someday.
Today was a good day for us as well. Today we got great news about my hubby who has been battling 6 kidney stones. Yowza! Today I prayed for you and your family to find strength to make the decision and go with your heart!! Today I spent alot of time snuggling and holding my 3 yr. almost 4yr old baby boy. Today I cried because I can’t seem to get pregnant. Today I rejoiced with the children I do have. Today was a good day.
Thank God for the kids you have, my daughter lost her 4 year old son almost 9 years ago and they haven’t been able to get pregnant since, and they want a child so badly….so be thankful every day that you have with them.
I’m so sorry to hear about your daughter’s loss. I can’t imagine. I for sure treasure the time I have with them and eat up every moment. Thanks for the reminder though!
You have a heart of gold, Tara. I can tell.
Today I prayed for you. Today I smiled at your comment about how much we learn each day. Today I was touched more than you know by the truth in your statement about our words needing to be gentle with those who frustrate us. Today I was encouraged to read that you were in the Word, because that’s exactly where you need to be ALL the time, but even more so during a time like this. Today I am so joyful for your family, for saying “yes” to the Lord, for trusting Him to lead you and guide you.
If you stop in KY let me know. We would be happy to fix you a nice homemade meat In Jesus Name!!!
Lori in KY
That is SOO suppose to say homemade meal instead of meat. I just cracked myself up!!
We’d love you to fix us some homemade meat, however it would be that you’d do that!!!
Thanks for the offer…and the smile.
I spent three months on the road with my two kids two years ago, just because we could. We went to everything we wanted to see in each of the lower 48 states. It was awesome. My then 9 year old son was completely into the civil war and we went everywhere to see things like that, we hit most major national parks and many of the small ones as well. It was great. You will have to take pics because your kids will be too young to remember most of it. My daughter who was 5 at that time, still remembers some things but once she see’s the pictures she says she can remember a bit more.
I’m not sure what y’all made but those measuring cups are AWESOME!
Wow! Major decision. Best wishes to you as you follow the places you believe God to be leading you.
Awesome!!!
Holy Canoli! What fun you guys are going to have!!!
I spent quite a bit of time living and traveling in an RV during my college years and I highly recommend it. Nothing like being in a tiny area to make you acutely aware of things you do and don’t actually need.
Oh, how I hope your RV makes it to Texas. We have a ton of amazing state parks and this is a great time of year to visit them. Well, it is a great time of year in relation to when my father liked to take us camping. He preferred August since the parks were empty. I think we were the only family who didn’t receive the notice that August is not for camping in Texas. Oh well. We have lifelong memories from those trips. I digress…
What I’m trying to say is YEA! This will be such an amazing time for your family! And, if you make it to Texas, we’d love to bring our crazy little family to meet you guys!
something with beets???
oh, and i’m completely jealous that you’re packing up and heading out with the family. i dream of the day when we can afford an rv and just drive drive drive. although i only have 2 boys….not 4 boys and 1 adorable little girl….you’ve got guts!!
Rainbow pancakes.
As my mom ALWAYS says.. Sleep with angels and go with God.
She says, what that means is…Sleep well with your angels watching over you and may you always travel with God along side you.
I love when she tells us that.
I
Lots to ponder today!
The problem with a blog with a comment section is, everyone leaves comments. Good or bad. Really strange ones sometimes too. Hmmm….
My mom used to always say be like a duck and let it roll off your back. Quack, quack, quack. LOl
I don’t know how practical or possible that is, but truly, I’d just be worrying about what the Lord’s view on you and your life are. If that is truly right, He’ll guide your steps, and everything else will just fall right into place.
Or, you could always just quack.
Come see us in PA
!
Wow, I am excited for you and your family. There are many families out there doing the RV thing. I also just read about a family that biked from the state of Washington all the way down through South America. Now I realize you have MSC and couldn’t possibly do that, but you are definately not alone in trying this amazing adventure. Don’t listen to the naysayers. We will be along for the ride through your blogging. If you ever need a place to park in Vermont it would be awesome to meet your family!
One of my friends just returned from a trip abroad with her two small children… she doesn’t write a wildly popular blog, but people still felt that it was worth them telling her she was crazy. I actually think just the opposite (oh, and I happen to have a masters degree in early childhood development). I can’t think of a better way for children to learn, explore, LIVE, grow closer to each other and their parents… I could go on and on.
Of course there will be challenges. Aren’t there always!
PS I have secretly been wanted to downsize a bit, so I can’t wait to see all of your space saving tips in the RV. We have three bedrooms right now and all of the boys share one… that leaves one open for any foster/adoption placements we may receive, but there are still rooms we don’t seem to use too much!
Today I thought about you and smiled.
Have you heard of “Hard Hats for Christ”? It is an organization that goes around volunteering with building churches around the nation and beyond. If we were not called to Uganda at this time, we would be working with this great group of RV families (mostly retirees, but gaining more younger families all the time)!!! You should really check them out. I don’t know why God has placed you in my heart when we were so close to each other in Africa last winter, but I know that His plan is perfect and He told me to let you know about HH4C. http://www.hh4c.org
Thanks for obeying God when He told you to share about that with me! Off to check them out!
Of course, you could always come with us back to Uganda too
I could use someone who has done homeschooling/teaching to help me out!!!! And you would be close to Miichelle…
Hi Miranda, my fam is being called to Uganda right now, too! I’d love to compare notes with you. Are you there already? Preparing? What kind of ministry are you guys doing?
My email is trophymama@hotmail.com
Joy
You should really stop by Salt Lake City, Utah on your RV adventure. By the looks of this here map, Utah is on the way to Atlanta….er….right? Oh wait….wrong map…um…okay…Forget maps, you’re on an adventure! Regardless, you, Israel and your MSC would love Utah…..I just know it!
Plus, I could use some family portraits….or even just an 8×10 for that matter. The last time our family portrait was taken I vowed to never sit in a studio again. And I haven’t. And we haven’t had our photos taken, either. Feel sorry for us yet? Not really? Oh well…it was worth a try.
Regardless, I just have to spread my arms and give you a ((((huge cyber hug)))). Figured you could use one and if not, I just like giving hugs.
Oh, you live in SLC? I have a friend who lives there and she’s begging me to come, too.
Yes, vow never to sit in a studio again. Good call!
Yes ma’am…we live about 10 minutes from SLC. BTW- I learned, like, 84 things today.
Nice. And I thought 79 was a lot.
I live 15 minutes outside of SLC too.
would love to see you and your family! You should definitely stop by!
Oh for exciting! (& wow, that is totally a frozen tundra
thing we say..) you are oh so very brave & trusting in our almighty father! What a leap of faith. I can guarentee you one thing- you have much more faith than me! I am a teenager and the thought of living in an RV makes me nervous! I need my space! but you jumping into this with MSC is amazing! I can’t wait to hear of your adventures! Are y’all (yep, I just mixed my northern accent with a southern word (good thing you didn’t hear it! :] )) going to be selling your house or just leave it & come back to it for a place to ‘vacation’ or when your RVing travels are over? Just out of complete random curiosity! (if ya
haven’t picked that up already! )
God bless you & yours on this great adventure! May your whole heart & mind be fully committed to him & trust him at all times!
Love & support from a fellow Minnesotan!
No plans to immediately sell our home….we’re just going to take what we think will be a shortish country tour and see what happens and where God leads. We’re not packing everything and moving permanently into an RV. At least, not yet!
I’m jealous of the road-tripping. I’ve always joked with my husband that when he retires we should buy an RV and travel the country. But for now it’s not possible with his line of work. Can I ask something personal? How long did y’all pray and agonize over the decision to go? I always worry when I feel God leading me to something that I’m not praying over the decision long enough or “going with my gut” isn’t truly listening to God. Does that make any sense? How long until you felt a real peace about this decision? I overanalyze everything so I’m always paranoid about making the wrong decision. Just wondered if you could share you heart on that topic.
Oh, and thank you for being so honest. Your realness makes me feel less guilty for my failings. I just started reading my Bible again for the first time in too long as well. I’m really struggling with how to fit a good quiet time into my life as mom to three under three. The house is quiet right now but in the evenings I am so dog tired I can’t seem to concentrate.
We totally did agonize and overanalyze…and then we just had to DO. And decide. And it was scary. But we’re glad we did and are feeling more of a peace and contentment now that we did.
Rainbow soup?
Also, very cool (and scary!) idea to RV it around for awhile….I would NOT have the guts to do it but I wish I did. It seems like a world of adventure, learning, and possibilities.
***Side note…did you get my email about the photo shoot? I got your one reply but then didn’t hear back again after I replied.
My email has been sketchy lately…which worries me since I’m job hunting!
Wow – what an amazing step of faith, MckMama! I know that I wouldn’t have the guts to do that. Just out of curiosity, are you going to sell your house?
And were you making some sort of preserves? Whatever it is, I love the colors!
No plans right now to sell our house and no, we’re not making preserves!
my dad passed away before he could retire — but his dad had a motor home business and i think he always wanted to do a trip like yours once he retired – i admire your ability to tolerate uncertainty – and for seizing each moment in life and making it worthwhile.
stop by philadelphia, please! (and then let me know haha – i’d love to meet you!)
Oh request for a pit stop south of The Cities? Us SE frozen tundra dwellers would appreciate it =) Plus I think our husbands would have a great time together =) I am sure there are many more of us southern Minnesota people who would enjoy it too. Plus if you haven’t been to Mayo Clinic yet, you have to see the glass sculpture hanging in the Gonda building. It is beyond words beautiful and an architectural enormity for blown glass. The clinic also has a great small museum that would be a wonderful history lesson for Big Mac. The original ambulances drawn by horse are so crazy.
So, does this mean that I won’t be able to come stand on your coffee table in March after all?
I can’t wait to follow your family’s adventure! (traveling the country in an RV is something I’ve secretly dreamed of for years!)
I love, that you’re going on the road. MY family WILL do this someday. Unfortunately, our time ins not now. When it is….I can’t even imagine the adventures we’ll go on. So many different people from different world s to meet!!
Are they candles?
Not candles!
Tie Dye?
You should really come see St. Cloud MN, It’s beautiful here
Seriously though, I totally jealous of the RV thing….totally.
*I agree with the tie dye guess*
Hehe, you’re funny!
And nope, it’s not tie dye!
If you venture to Mississippi we’ll feed you some southern cooking and show you some southern hospitality. Lots of history in our area. Will be praying you through.
Oh! Are you making the healthy version of those rainbow pancakes? I bought some kale, beets, and carrots. We’ve got squash in the freezer and blueberries will be on our food co-op truck next week. We’re using oats soaked in yogurt. They are lighter color than whole wheat plus I can’t eat the wheat. I can’t wait to see what you’re up to.
Okay, please explain to me this oats soaked in yogurt thing! Is that THE batter? Or do you add that TO the batter?
And YES!! Ding, ding, ding!!!! I had NEVER heard of or even dreamed of rainbow pancakes. When I randomly thought to put beet puree in our white rice the other day and YOU mentioned how you wanted to do that to make rainbow pancakes, I was sold! No idea if YOU have a recipe or plan to follow one, but I was inspired…so I created my own! Yuppers, we made healthy rainbow pancakes today, inspired by YOU! Of course, I plan (if it’s okay with you?) to link to you when I post about the pancakes in full. May I? I was tickled at the notion and particularly surprised ours turned out as well as they did!
Hugs.
Sure link up! Amanda over at i am mommy deserves credit too. That’s where I first saw rainbow pancakes with food coloring. Boy, did she get harassed for it too. When I saw that, I thought about how I could make them with more natutal colors. I just hadn’t gotten around to it yet.
We worked on some of the purees this morning. I’m dying to see how yours turned out. I’m just freezing them into cubes and will add a couple to each bowl of batter.
Okay the yogurt: I think this recipe comes from Sally Falon. The cultured milk product breaks down the grain to release more nutrition. We always double the batch and freeze them.
2 cups whole wheat flour or regular or quick oats
2 cups yogurt, kefir, or buttermilk
Mix together and then let them soak together in a covered bowl 6-8 hours. I put mine on the counter during the day, but in the fridge overnight. Then mix in:
2 Tbsp melted butter or 1/4 light oil
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs (optional)
Sweeten and flavor creatively
and cook on low heat. They take a bit longer than regular pancakes I hear. I never made pancakes before these ones.
Ahhh, good to know! Amanda has had some brilliantly colorful ideas, hasn’t she!? Yes, I am not a huge fan of coloring food with food coloring….I salivated at your notion of a healthy version. Wonder what you’ll think of my color ideas. You’ll have to let me know! And thanks for the yogurt and oat recipe!! No idea who Sally Falon is, but I am loving the concept! STILL bummed that I was so close to you but no cigar. Next time for sure!
I don’t know what it is today about your words. But, tears sprung to my eyes immediately. I think it was the point when you said your read your bible today for the first time in a while, my heart physically felt heavy immediately. I think my conviction is over whelming me today. Your last few posts have been a very clear Holy Spirit kick in the behind for me. Not that your words are doing it. Just that your words and emotional struggle let me take my fingers out of my ears and stop acting like a four year old chanting “I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you”. Thank you again for being real and you. I really needed it and needed to hear it.
The Holy Spirit has been kicking my behind (in love, of course) lately, too. I’m glad (really, I am, even though kicking is no fun) to hear that He’s doing it for you, too.
That is wonderful news…I look forward to reading the travels of MckFamily To-Go! Is that tie die and how did you do it? I am guessing it is all natural, I am interested!
Maybe come to Houston again and do a photoshoot this time?! We got jipped when you were just here for a day
Little known fact (and I was grateful when someone pointed this out to me) but jipped is an offensive slur to those of Roma/Gypsy descent.
We have a new babe due in Feb, so coming thru Houston about then and offering photo shoots would be AMAZING
I am super excited about this adventure! What a neat opportunity for your family to learn, grow in Christ, and have fun making memories!!
Makes me want to stow away!
Good luck with your decision to travel and see the states with the kids. I hope your travels brings you to the Raleigh/Durham NC area. I would love to meet you and your family. And possibly have you take awesome pictures of my MSC.
I will guess you guys did tye-dyed shirts.
The State of NH (Or Mass) would love to see all your lovely faces…and when I say state of NH…I actually mean ME!
I love your sentence about “As Christians we must speak gently to those who frustrate us…” It really resonated with me. May I quote you on my Facebook? You put perfectly into words how I am feeling.
I say have a blast taking your family around our nation!! What a great education for you all.I wish I had the opportunity to do the same!
Sure, you certainly may.
Thank you!!!!
I greatly needed this statement today as well…thank you. <3
Today was a great day to end the suspense! Can’t wait for photos of this rv, and the bright and colorful yet organized touch I’m sure you’ll give it!
It really is amazing how God’s kingdom is bursting with new energy. When I read about what you and your family are experiencing with being called to follow the Lord, it feels like a mirror of what’s happening in my house. Then to see dozens and dozens of commenters saying the same thing, it just fills my spirit.
Ps, I think the rv should be called the mckwagon. Mainly because I like how people from the Frozen Tundra say ‘wagon’.
I have felt the same way…seeing dozens of commenters full of zest and zeal for the Lord!!
And, just for you, I”ll say it: Wagon.
I agree on the MckWagon idea
It’s been too long since I’ve been on your blog, but GOD IS SO GREAT and you help the words I needed…
“Today I was reminded that we as Christians must be gentle in how we speak to others who frustrate us, otherwise our message of love will be lost in our own hypocrisy.”
Thank you MckMama; I truly thank you!
yes, agreed! i totally want to steal that phrase!! : )
all the best to you on your new adventure.
You are so brave.
Come to Austin, Texas! (and offer a photo shoot). Pretty pretty please?
Hugs!
I guess tie dye.
did you make dyed t-shirts??
Wow, what a big leap of Faith, I am so inspired! Keep up the great work Jennifer! Love your blog!
also? the part about our message of love getting lost in hypocrisy w/ frustration & unkind words? YES THAT.
I agree! Very well said.
Yeah, that. For sure.
Wonderful! Our prayers are with you and you family as you embark on an eventful
Journey. One that many dream of and only few fulfill. You are a very passionate person
in everything you do. I have no doubt that God will lead you on a path less
Traveled for he knows your strength! Good luck. Can’t wait to hear more
About your journey.

i’m excited for you. i’ve never had any desire to hit the road….until the last 6 months. it’s very intriguing to me. northwest indiana is lovely! [but, maybe june-ish!] =)
Well, you could always make a stop about 90 miles north of Atlanta. I would love to have a photo shoot with you!!
I’m guessing Finger paints! They look so bright! I hope they are, and you post the recipe! I can’t ever get finger paint to turn out that bright!
Ooooh, great guess!! They aren’t finger paints, though.
Come to Florida and take pictures of MY MSC!! It’s just a lil south of Atlanta! I’ll make you dinner!

Yes Florida!! We are in the panhandle!! We would love for you to come this way!!
As the Spanish say…..Vio Con Dios which means may God go with you on your journey! I hope you continue to take and share great pictures (I think that is a God given talent that you share with others). I hope you continue with your daily blogs when you are on your journey. Your kids will learn so much and see so much. IT truly is a great adventure for your whole family.
Can’t wait to hear about your travels and where you end up! So excited for you – especially proud that you stood in the face of all the ridiculous adversity you faced over your announcement of thinking of RVing it. You are a great example!
Thank you.
I think you guys made “water paints”? I sure hope that you still blog while you are on the road!!!
Oh, of course! An experience like that is bound to be will be even better shared!
Are you going to continue to write your blog on the road? I hope so!
Yes!!
I think that’s great!!! I look forward to reading about all of your adventures!
) That is something I have always wanted to do….go cross country in an RV with no schedule and no set destination. However, with two teenagers who are in school and very involved in sports and school activities it is impossible at this time. What a wonderful thing for you to do and what an amazing way to follow what your Heart is telling you to do…that is how God speaks to us!
oh, and can you come through Southeast Iowa on your travels…I would love a photoshoot!
)
i also live in south east Iowa and would love a shoot!
Please please please say you’ll come to Charlotte in your travels (and do a photo shoot here)!
Praise the Lord His mercies are new every morning!
Thanks for your honesty!
