inspired by a five year old

Remember how I talked the other day about remembering? It can sometimes be a struggle for me to keep in the forefront of my mind the things I know God wants me to. As near as I can tell, our five year old does not have that problem. How simultaneously refreshing and convicting it is for me to see our first born remember with such passion.

“Hey, Mom! Don’t put that penny in the drawer. Remember? Let’s put it in Frankline’s piggy bank so we can save enough for him to go to the dentist!”

“Don’t forget to give me my offering for Sunday school. Remember?”

Just this morning, in the car, “Remember? If we share God’s love, the world will grow! And we want the world to grow, right Mom?”

And yesterday, “I know what we can do after lunch. I can write to Miichelle and our other kids! We haven’t done that in a long time. Remember?” So, he did.

LetterToMiichelle

Our five year old inspires me with his love for the Lord, his concern for other people and with the way he remembers. I couldn’t be more proud that he’s my son!!

Big Mac’s letter is caring and filled with love the way only an innocent child can convey it. Thank you so much for sharing.

How precious that Big Mac is that sweet & thoughtful…and I believe it’s because of how his parents have raised him. Love his letter to the Compassion child. :)

It’s amazing how much children who have spent less time here on earth can teach us about the world around us. The other day my six year old daughter was with one of the kids I babysit, and the little girl hates all bugs. Well my daughter found a lightening bug. So the little girl goes, “Angie, is a lightening bug good for anything.” My daughter without skipping a beat, “Yes, a lightening bug lights up the world, and shows God’s love, because Jesus Christ is the light of the world.”

Honestly, I never knew lightening bugs were so important before.

What a sweet little soul he is! I’m sure receiving that letter from Big Mac will make Miichelle’s day! A ray of sunshine. I am always amazed at the things my own children remember. They frequently talk about things that happened years ago.

  17. Joy says:

I too am constantly amazed at how God has created this little brains/minds/memories within our little ones. Combined with a heart for God and a love for his people, it’s a beautiful – and often convicting – thing. Loved this!

  18. Tuck that letter away for your son’s future children!

Have you thought about turning your blog postings into an e-book for your family? It would be a treasure for your future grandchildren to browse through.

I know, it’s hard to think about being a grandmother some day when you have a newborn and other little ones. But being a grandmother will eventually happen to you too! Live in your moment, but save up those treasures for your future!

  19. Grannie says:

And we thought puppies and kitties were full of unconditional love! That boy is just spilling over with love. He’s going to be a very special tool one day – - or maybe he already is?!

  20. Penny says:

How precious! What a wonderful man he is going to become. :)
Our preachers son, when he was five, took his toys outside to sell “to buy Bibles for people that don’t have one.” Then, recently started talking to his parents to adopt a child, BEFORE they announced that God was leading them to apply to adopt from Peru.

  21. Iris says:

    wonderful! makes my heart happy.

  22. Jacqueline says:

Kids can be such a blessing because they tend to pay attention to things we don’t. I’m a first grade teacher, and I often find myself inspired by 6 and 7 year olds!

  23. Katy Ibarra says:

WOW…What a sweet spirit he has! I love when my children make sweet/caring gestures such as this, with all the things I do wrong as a mom, it makes me feel as if I must be teaching them at least a few things right…good job, Jennifer! Thanks for sharing!

  24. Deb says:

Love that sweet letter Big Mac wrote!!
Reminds me to write a letter to my own Compassion kids as well.

I guess if God can speak through a donkey (Numbers 22), He can certainly speak through children = )

Thanks for helping us to remember!!!
