I want to…

…remember the sleepless nights.

…embrace my frizzy hair.

…enjoy the scent of his newborn head.

FlurryInSleepyWrap

…smile even when I’m tired.

…rejoice in the chaos.

…hold his as much as I can.

…be thankful for diaper duty.

…focus on what really matters.

…press him close.

…joyfully endure showerless days.

…breathe deeply.

…love fearlessly.

…revel in his innocence.

…be proud of the dark circles under my eyes.

…feel his heart beat against my chest.

…not be ashamed of my stretch marks.

…be bathed in peace.

…accept my body for the beautiful giver of life that it is.

…leave no cheek unkissed.

…have no regrets, for I know all too well that this time with him is fleeting. He will be grown and gone before I can blink my eyes. And I want to make every moment count, now while I still can.

Beautiful! So excited for you and your family! It makes me very excited and hopeful that I’ll be able to have children of my own soon!

  3. Yes! A beautiful post today. I want to be proud of my dirty kitchen floor and the fact that I am in the worst mood ever because my 5 year old woke up in the middle of the night with a bloody nose and didn’t go back to sleep. But it was a small price to pay for just being up with her and comforting her. I won’t be able to do that forever. http://www.livewithflair.blogspot.com/

  4. Allison says:

I just gave birth to our third son, Levi, on August 1. I, too, am experiencing those same thoughts and feelings. Thanks for putting it all into words :)

So, SO true. Which is why I’m sitting here snuggling my 3 week old instead of doing laundry & dishes. ;-) I’ll do them when daddy gets home and is taking his turn enjoying our 3rd baby.

  28. Suzanne says:

Yes, yes! Since I have left the days of infancy and toddlerhood, it is NOW that I feel the days slipping away. I always did embrace every moment, but I find myself speaking those words to myself often lately!

  29. Paige says:

That has got to be the most perfect picture. He looks like a doll. Your post wonderfully spoken–and I have no doubt that you will succeed in doing all those things.

  36. Debra says:

Well said, beautiful momma! Oh how I miss the days of having babies!

  37. Jen L. says:

I love this. You are really invoking the baby fever in me but I feel too old and feel like we have too many other issues. I guess I will live vicariously through you!!!

  38. Mama M. says:

Wonderful!! I love it…and you are right. Soak it in, lap it up, memorize every little moment, because they are gone entirely too quickly!

  39. Jennifer M. says:

Awww, finally a photo of Mom and Babe! I love it! So sweet!

  40. lynn in alabama says:

Ahhhhh… what a nice post to look at before going to bed. I’m sure to have sweet dreams.
I won’t ever have children (too old now) so it is especially wonderful to get to experience motherhood through your words and photos.

I would title that photo as The Radiance of Mother’s Love.

  41. katie4life says:

    Well said.
But you look good – that is an awesome pic of new mom (again) and babe!

  42. SaraSkinny says:

You do know that that’s a picture of you, and not your feet right!?

It’s so good to see you MckMama and Little Flurry. He is just too gorgeous for words. He looks so comfortable in his sling with his Momma.

    Perfection at its’ finest.

  43. Girl! The love juice is just FLOWING thru You!

Can’t wait til I’m there again. I love the way newborns make me feel, the way that new life makes you look at the world around you just a little more, too, and I love being reminded of that in these blog posts of late.

  44. Cherilyn says:

    Lovely!!!

  45. Debra says:

My babies are 29, 28 and 24…I loved loved loved being pregnant because I knew it wouldn’t last forever….too bad the babies don’t last forever before you know it they are regular humans and don’t smell nearly as good(well, boys at least my two daughters still smell pretty great)

  46. Gorgeous photo . . . and beautiful sentiments. My little, teeny-tiny baby turns one in about two weeks, and I tear up when I think back to those oh-so-blurry first few months. They went by so quickly and I just have fleeting, sleep-deprived hazy memories of it all.

  47. Jenney says:

Really bad when my baby is only 4 months this Saturday and your little McFlurry makes me have baby fever…is that even possible? Is is sick I’d love Irish Twins? Yes, my husband wouls say that is sick.

  48. Beth says:

GORGEOUS mama and baby boy! It makes me smile seeing you beaming with sweet Lachlan. Soak it up…it does go by so fast! Happy!

  49. Molly says:

Uhm. Stop it. HE IS SO CUTE. and between your tweets and blogs – you need a cape for being super mom

    Congrats and MELT.

  50. karina says:

Awwwww! I can almost smell that newborn scent just looking at that picture! My uterus and I will just have to content ourselves with precious memories of times gone by.

I love you dearly, sweet friend. Maybe your prayer be answered! Mashed potatoes
    !

  51. Tina says:

LOVE this PHOTO!!! Soak it up Momma!!!! PERFECT BLISS!!

  52. Sundrymama says:

    You look radiant!

I so identify with these sentiments. When our babies suddenly look “bigger” how much do we mamas think back to the early days and wish we had savored them more when we still had them…

  53. Tara Simpson says:

You look fabulous…and truly happy!! You are the greatest momma I know!! :) Snuggle that sweet babe for me! Wanting a newborn so bad at our house and no luck so far! Pray it happens soon! :) Love ya!

    Tara

  54. Holly says:

    Beautiful!

    • Holly says:

I want to add that I know you are an experienced babywearer, but that is so going to be your key to survival, because life goes on. I have 4 children of my own and watched a baby recently, and it was really no big deal because when she wasn’t eating or sleeping or content doing anything else, I put her in the carrier and went on with my normal routine. She would settle right in and sleep until it was time to feed her again. It would be a nightmare trying to take care of a baby and 4 other children with out baby carriers. I wouldn’t get anything done, and the other children would either starve, or get by on whatever crap they could make on their own. My favorite is a Beco carrier. I think you have something similar that you are holding Stellan in, on your fb page profile pic. Second favorite is a Kozy Carrier. Favorite for newborn stage is a fleece pouch, mine was a Peanut Shell, but any would work. If you have a needy, needy baby that needs to be held all day long, nothing beats a good, woven wrap. They are expensive, but so worth it and have a high resale value.

      Carry on!

  55. Erin McLeod says:

What a great post and a fabulous reminder for all of us!
I’m just curious….you seem to have a lot of different slings/wraps/carriers and I’m just wondering if you have a favorite one for certain ages of if would recommend one. I’m having my 3rd in October and have always wanted to use a sling, but there are so many out there! I realize you have other things to do right at the moment ;) , so I guess if anyone else has any suggestions I’d be open to them!! THANKS and God Bless!

    • Michele says:

I know I’m not McMama…but, I had my 3rd last November and used a Moby Wrap (it looks like that’s what she has on in the picture). It is wonderful. Just yesterday I had my near 9 month old, 23 lb, LONG baby boy in it. He fell asleep while I played with my other two little ones. You should watch a few videos on You Tube on how to wrap it and wear it, but it’s wonderful. far better than a Baby Bjorn, and even a lot of slings (I think). I had a friend with the same age baby trying to keep her in a sling the day I had my son in the Moby. My son was so snug and safe, and her baby kept trying to crawl out….made me nervous. Just my experience.

    • Vinessa says:

I like the moby wrap when they are going to be in it for long periods of time, hiking, going to the mall, etc. however, I much prefer my ring sling to take to the store with me when I will be making quick trips, etc. My ring sling goes everywhere with me, just stays in my diaper bag. I will be making another for our new babe when he/she arrives :)

  56. Ellen Magers says:

    Amen and amen!

  57. Love that picture…you look wonderful and so content!

I am proud of my stretch marks, too! I’ve always called them “battle scars”…and I feel a bond with all the other mothers out there who’ve gone through the same thing. Although at times I do want to smack those moms who say, “I never got any stretch marks!!!!” Well, good for you!

    Have a great night! ;)

  58. Shaina says:

You just made me cry… like… a lot.

It made me miss my sweet newborn baby girl…. she’s 9 months now, and the MOST independent little girl… I miss those sweet cuddles, and the fact that she would wake if I tried to lay her down for a nap… so I had to sit and snuggle her.

Cherish it. I know you are, but this was the perfect post. THAT should be in hospital take home backs!!!

  59. Lisa says:

So, soo true! My baby girl is 10 mos and I already miss the newborn stage (even though I’m expecting again!) with her. Why do they have to grow so fast?!?

  60. Carrie says:

    You’re absolutely beautiful!

  61. sixcrazychildren says:

you have brought a smile to my very sad face……. I may do a post like this myself. I need to focus on what I want to….. too……

  64. Mama Llama says:

Amen! You look great by the way.

  65. Kate says:

I have never seen you look as beautiful as you do in this picture.

    Just sayin.

  66. Bethany says:

SIgh. I love it. I hope that I can have this same attitude when my little one comes in December. I have such a hard time remembering to ENJOY all the little moments with a newborn, rather than complain about the discomfort and lack of sleep. Maybe third time’s the charm!!! :) Hugs to you and that sweet sweet boy!!

  67. Mama Sienna says:

Perfectly said. Absolutely agree!!! I miss the newborn days. I’m in the perfect chaos of toddlers =))

  68. Kalla says:

I also want to not be ashamed of stretch marks! :)

  69. Andrea says:

Perfectly well said. I can’t wait to be a mother!

Also, what kind of wrap is that you are wearing?? It looks way confortable!

  70. Alisha says:

BY FAR my favorite post of all time.

  71. Karen says:

Hey! Nice to see you, Jennifer! You look great and Lachlan is as beautiful as your other children. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  72. momofm@m says:

How nice to see you Jennifer! When you have the sweetest, snuggliest, coziest newborn on the planet in your arms no one notices your stretch marks or frizzy hair. The only thing I have to complain about is that this photo wasn’t taken using your funky new turqoise wall as a backdrop! Enjoy these sweet newborn moments while they last!

  73. Cathy says:

This and you and him make me smile. See: :D

  74. Kelli says:

    Amen! Never take for granted!

  75. Crystal says:

Love it! Flurry is so beautiful and so lucky to have a mom that treasures every moment with him while leaving no need unmet in her other children. Congratulations! :D

  76. Shelli says:

The words are so very beautiful but the photo speaks louder than anything, pure bliss.

  77. EmilyL says:

Beautiful photo–Gorgeous mom and precious baby boy. Congrats!

  78. Nicole says:

Couldn’t have said it better. I too and soaking up the now with my daughter who is 5 months old. I hold her while she is sleeping and kiss her chubby cheeks, and stroke her silky soft skin, and just take in every part of her!!!

    LOVE the picture!

  79. Heather says:

Beautiful picture! My eyes got a little teary-eyed. It’s just something about moms and their newborns that gets me. :)
You will always cherish this photo and I hope you have many more for yourself and him!
Now we need to see a precious family photo! I just got some new ones of my family- we took them ourselves and it was last minute. I don’t care if we were dressed just for playing at the park with our 20 month old, we will always treasure the family photos. :)

  80. Kirsten says:

Beautiful…that really put a smile on my face.
    Those moments pass so quickly.

  81. Katie says:

You look great! I’m glad you’re enjoying every moment with your sweet bundle!

  82. Linds says:

I love this post…. you look wonderful! I still look frizzy haired and unshowered… 16 months later. LOL.

  83. Jenny says:

Beautiful picture! I know the feeling. I had my 3rd child about 4 months ago, and I cry every time she outgrows another 0-3 month old outfit. I have a 4 1/2 and 3 year old, so I’m a lot smarter this time around and I know this stage will soon be gone. Even now, as I’m holding her close, I’m hoping she stays this small. Many, many blessings on your family!

  84. charity cole says:

Amen. My youngest is 4 days old. I am loving every newborn moment.

  85. Angela says:

You go girl!! You are looking great!! Congrats on your newest bundle!! You have a beautiful family. God bless you all!! :)

  86. Susan Schnitzler says:

We’ve all been there…you look amazing! Enjoy those sweet moments with your new little one. As you well know…those moments fly by so, so very quickly!

  87. Jenny says:

Beautiful picture! I just had my 3rd child almost 4 months ago. I cry every time I put away her 0-3 month clothes. I have a 4 1/2 and a 3 year old as well, so I’m smarter this time around. I know she will grow up way too fast for me. So even at this moment, I’m holding her close and longing for these days to never end. Many, many blessings on your family!

  88. Melissa says:

    looks so comfy!

  89. He’s such a cutie pie! Such a sweet post and sweet picture. This is just making me more and more excited to hold my new baby! Her big sister is so ready!

BTW, is that at Moby Wrap? Just another thing I can’t wait to use when Baby Bug gets here!

  90. Sandra says:

My grandson attended his first day of kindergarten today, and I have been thinking about how quickly the years have gone by since that beautiful day when he came into the world. You are a wise woman to focus on the gift of every moment you have with your precious baby and your other children. Please kiss that sweet-smelling, newborn head for all the grandmas who now have grand-baby fever.

  91. Malissa says:

    oh yes….you look great! a beautiful baby-wearing mama :)

Oh, how sweet! You look so great wearing babies. :-) He is just adorable!!!

  93. Deb says:

Since my “baby” is now 25 years old and newly married, I can definitely relate to how “fleeting” this precious time with your newborn son is. Treasure every moment as it does go by ever sooo quickly!

You are such a beautiful mother (inside AND outside)!!!!!

All these photos and posts about newborns are making me feel very anxious/excited for a grandbaby = )
