strong and lovely

Our first letter from Farjana came in the mail yesterday.

LetterFromFarjana

I cried. I didn’t really expect that strong emotional reaction to getting a letter from one of our sponsored children, but that’s what happened. We got a letter from Frankline, too. The kids were thrilled with the letters, Big Mac especially. He helped me write to all of our children last night. They are all still as gung-ho as ever about saving money for these children across the world as they were when my husband and I first returned from Kenya. Their spirits are strong and lovely.

And you, Farjana and Frankline, you are strong and lovely, too. We love you!

Nice website, great hearing your stories.

The language is Bangla. The dialect above is specifically used by the Hindu’s and Christians throughout West Bengal, India and parts of Bangladesh. The letter has been written on behalf of Farjana by another person. As Farjana is a common Bengali Muslim name, this dialect is a bit different than a Bengali Muslim would use. Indeed the hand writing above is beautiful and actually prettier than most common letters would be written. Blessings to you all!

We got a sweet letter today from our little girl in India…made me cry too. :) It was a thank you for a gift we sent listing all the items they were able to purchase for their home and family.

Are you SURE a 10 year old wrote that? It sure looks like neat adult print to me. A child (who doesn’t use English as the first language to write) does not make all the “n’s” consistent like that and sure doesn’t write that neat. I hate to be cynical, but you have to wonder. I also wonder why all the “praise” comments are posted, but yet the one’s that aren’t 100% positive never see the light of day on your comment screen. HA

That is not very nice… it is people like you that remind me to be grateful for wonderful people like MckMama… Thanks for the reminder

      • Chik says:

THAT isn’t very nice to attack me like that, Sarah B. Put down the kool-aid, you don’t have to believe or agree with EVERYTHING that Mckmama writes. And you certainly don’t have to attack another poster for their opinion. You have yours….I have mine….and we live in a country that we are all allowed that, right? I don’t think a 10 year old wrote that. Period. No 10 year old in the United States could write that perfect, let alone a foreign child. Plus…I wasn’t talking to you thankyouverymuch.

    • As the saying goes – leave your not nice comments to yourself and if you don’t have anything nice to say……………..

  7. that is just awesome.
I pray my husband will open
his heart one day and let our family
    sponsor a child! tara

  8. Rebekah says:

We sponsored a child on your trip, as well (Baraka) and I had the same reaction a few weeks back, when we received his letter. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have this sweet life apart of ours.

Baraka signed his letter saying, “I ask you to pray for me and my family while we pray for yours.”

    Beautiful.

    • Sarah B says:

Oh wow I love that your sponsor child said that… so touching. how old is your sponsor child?

  9. Sarah says:

What beautifully neat handwriting! I was so excited when I received my first letter from my Kenyan cutie!

It’s because you and MckDaddy are strong & lovely that you have instilled those virtues in your MSC. It’s wonderful how you are tangibly teaching them to be compassionate and generous towards those less fortunate. It’s one thing to teach them Bible stories and lessons about helping others–it’s quite another thing to live it out! Good for you!

    Have a great MckDay! :)

  10. Joyce says:

Very nice letter. As stated, beautiful. What language is that?

  11. Eli says:

As a child I have wonderful memories my parents sponsoring a boy in Ecuador, him and I had birthdays 3 days apart. We loved getting his letters, my mom kept the letters and pictures framed next to her bed. It was like he was also our brother. We eventually found out he had 2 siblings and we ended up sponsor both of them too.

  12. Debbie says:

I recently sponsored a Compassion child, Fiona, after much prayer. I received her packet yesterday and wrote my first letter to her last night. I can already tell this relationship will be a blessing.

  13. pam says:

those would make beautiful framed pictures. What a wonderful gift

  14. Tiffany says:

We just got a letter from our sponsored child. She lives in the Philippines. Her mother also wrote to me. Such a blessing. I know exactly how you feel.

    • Sarah B says:

Can you ask your sponsor child’s mother if they have a friend or Brother or sister that needs sponsoring?? Everytime I go on the site to choose a sponsor child I can never decide which one to choose because I love them all but can only help one :o (

  15. Debra says:

    Absolutely beautiful!

I cried when we got our first letter as well.

Just a suggestion but we received a letter from one of our sponsor kiddos where someone had traced his hand & he colored it in on a letter to us. It happens to be my son’s Sponsor friend since their birthdays fall on the same day. So what we did was then trace Brendan’s hand over the top of Rodrigo’s to show the difference. We then took a picture of Brendan with the paper to send back to Rodrigo. That way Rodrigo has a photo of Brendan with a copy of their handprints together. :)

  16. Jamie says:

I think its great that you are showing your kids how to be compassionate from an early age. This will be their “normal”. I have a compassion child from Haiti and have been waiting for news since the hurricane. Just this past week I got a letter from her and I cried for joy over God’s protection of her and her family.

  17. Jennie says:

oh wow that is beautiful! do they send you something to interpet it with, or an english version?

  18. Sandra says:

I love receiving letters from my sponsored child as well. I recently read the book “Radical” by David Platt, and the things he said about simplifying our lives for the sake of providing for the needs of the poor reminded me of the things you’ve shared since your visit to Kenya. I highly recommend the book. If you would like to check it out, visit . It has really made me think more seriously about living out the gospel the way Jesus instructed us to.

  19. charlotte says:

I wait with impatience for a letter of my sponsored child. It’s long, I sent a letter one month ago to Haiti and I don’t know if she received my letter.

  20. Sandra says:

I love the letters I receive from my sponsored child as well. I was wondering if you had read or heard of the book “Radical

  21. carlotta says:

I love getting letters from our sponsored children. To see what an impact we have in their lives is amazing.
