Not Me! Monday

Are you feeling guilty for asking your husband to complete something from your Honey-Do list on Father’s Day? Overcome with embarrassment when your young daughter leaks your unborn son’s name, which you are trying to keep secret, to a group of friends? Well, don’t be! Not Me! Monday was born out of my desire to admit some of my imperfections and reveal a few moments I’d rather forget. You may find it therapeutic to join in and do the same thing!

I’ll start!

My family and I didn’t take a completely impromptu road trip, spanning four different states, this past weekend. Not us! We are structured and organized and always pre-plan everything. At literally a moment’s notice, we certainly didn’t hop in the car to go help meet a need, swinging by some friends’ place a few states away while we were already out. Not us!!

I didn’t do multiples days of my daily financial study homework yesterday in the car during the hours before our small group met. Nope, not me! I certainly never procrastinate.

And I certainly didn’t take Miss Small Fry into a field near our home yesterday for a Father’s Day photoshoot.

TutuInTheField-11

Not me!

TutuInTheField-2

I’d never ask our two year old to trudge through tall grass with bare legs while listening to her tell me how itchy and scratchy it was.

TutuInTheField-3

And I certainly didn’t respond with, “Well, beauty is pain, Darlin’.”

TutuInTheField-4

I certainly did nothing of the sort, all for the sake of photos for Daddy of his only daughter.

TutuInTheField-8

Not me!

TutuInTheField-9

And when bugs flew in Miss Small Fry’s eyes, I didn’t press on with the photoshoot, asking her to try sitting in the grass.

TutuInTheField-10

Not me!

TutuInTheField-5

But even if I would have, I certainly wouldn’t have done something even more daring. Since Small Fry was having a good time with our shoot, I didn’t decide to move things…

TutuInTheField-7

… to the middle of our long, country road.

TutuInTheRoad

I mean, seriously. Who would do that!? Not me!

TutuInTheRoad-3

Under our close supervision, our children never participate in out-of-the-box, risky behavior. We walk the straight and narrow…

TutuInTheRoad-2

…and we teach our children to do the same. So, I don’t know who had this photoshoot with Small Fry yesterday, but it certainly was not me!!

What about you? What have you not been up to lately?

Oh my goodness you are seriously disturbed!!! Can you say “ABUSE”???!! “Beauty is pain”??? For REAL??? Do you even have a conscience? I am never coming onto this site again. No more clicks. Good BYE!

    • mckmama77 says:

      It was a joke;)

      • Kelly Vasami says:

        I’m laughing!

      • Jade says:

She doesn’t appear to be in actual pain. I don’t know why people get so worked up. Seriously!

I think the photos are beautiful! I definitely don’t think “irresponsible parent” when I see them. I think cutie pie little girl. If abuse were getting itched by grass or bitten by a bug then all parents would be unfit. Sheesh.

    • Missy says:

I agree. What concerns me more than that is the pictures out in the middle of the street. It’s sending a message of yes, it’s okay to play and take pictures in the street. I’m know she’s probably been told not to play in the street, but it is sending mixed messages.

  2. Cassie says:

I love it! The hair, the dress, the absolute cuteness!

  3. Liz says:

She looks like the runaway bride! :)

  4. Stefanie says:

I absolutely love those pictures of Small Fry!

  5. Meredith says:

Your daughter is absolutely delectable! I love the photo shoot and I think that you are giving all of your children, and you husband, a great gift by capturing them in such a beautiful way! Love you Mckmama! Someday I will be able to purchase a great camera and take awesome pics of my future kids! hopefully! All of it! Muah!

  6. Sundrymama says:

Beautiful girlie! First thing I thought was that I don’t think I’ve EVER seen one of your kids in all white. They’re always so colorful! :P Love the white for daddy’s angelic little girl shots.

  7. Anna Musatov says:

Seriously? How cute is Small Fry in her tutu?! Adorable pictures :)

  8. abby says:

    She is such a doll!

  9. Candace says:

These pictures are AMAZING!!! I love the ones on the road! AWESOME!!! I have to ask… did you make her tutu? I have been wanting to attempt to make my 3 year old one, but just scared I will mess it up!

  10. Amy says:

WOW- LOVE LOVE LOVE those pictures! You have such a gift for photography! Love to see your work.

  11. Jill says:

what beautiful pics of your sweet baby girl!!! what a neat gift for PC :)

love the last one of small fry in the road doing a ballet pose :) too cute!

  13. I did this same thing with my four year old a few weeks ago and she was not pleased with me about the grass, in the least! I don’t think I even got one smiling pic, oh, the itchiness of it all! LOL

  14. Amy says:

She is absolutely delightful!!!! Love your pics!

  15. NanaDiana says:

Oooppps..It’s the last picture-she looks like a cloud is her “halo”…

  16. NanaDiana says:

I love the next-to-last (?) picture. It looks like she has a cloud for a “crown”. Beautiful child, beautiful job, beautiful present for Dad! You are a good McMama!

  17. Kelly Vasami says:

J – I’m super-duper lovin’ this shoot! I am very jealous of your wide open skies, country roads, and tall grasses. If I shot on my street, there’d be 6 Hondas, 5 minivans, 3 Toyotas, an ice cream truck, 4 bicyclists, 53 other houses, 18 kids and loud teenagers, and 10 dogs. Not quite the same effect. Lol. -K

  18. Evy says:

    How cute! Great pictures!!!

  19. Paula says:

I would like to know what kind of organization you use with all the pictures you take of your kids. I am HORRIBLE about taking the pictures, downloading them to the computer……….and there they stay. :( Do you print/develop a lot of your pictures?

  20. Rahcel says:

Small Fry is just adorable! Love the tutu and her hair-oh my goodness! Too cute for words!

  21. Kristen says:

LOVE the pictures…however, as the anal retentive mom that I am…I would be freakin’ out about ticks and such!

  22. I love this clever post! Here’s my “Not Me.” I didn’t let my husband bring home two cats for us to “rescue” and care for. Not me! One of them even had only one eye and couldn’t purr. I’m not a cat lady now that I have three cats! Not me! Well, that one-eyed cat found his purr, and I posted pictures of him today! http://www.livewithflair.blogspot.com/

  23. Sarah says:

LOVE these pics of SF!!!!! :) Beautiful!

  24. Brenda Unzen says:

Love all your photos. Wish I could come to your Minnesota photo shoot but will be out of town. Do not know how you handel bad comments Mckmama. I did not shut my blog down to only me after getting some very bad comments. Not me as why would any one hate me so much to leave such comments when I have the sweetes 4 kids in the world. Not Me!!!

  25. purejoy says:

thanks for a little small fry fix. she’s too adorable. and it’s not like you haven’t heard that before!

  26. Tiffany says:

I love Small Fry’s hair all tied up like that. It’s so cute spunky! As I’m sure with all that testosterone she is definitely spunky and tomboyish. Nothing wrong with a beautiful girl with the toughness of a boy.
    LOVE her!

  27. Beautiful pics of Small Fry…love, love, love!

  28. sarah says:

what type of lens do you use?

  29. Suzanne says:

She is soooo precious!!!! I love her little curly cues. I do that to my girls too!

I am soo NOT blog hopping in between baking for a potluck for work and getting ready to go to my oldest daughter’s softball game!!!!

  30. TerraD says:

Those pictures on the road turned out great! One of my senior pictures was taken sitting on railroad tracks, and it is hanging out our bedroom wall. My kids have a real problem with it and the fact that I could have gotten run over by a train!

    • mckmama77 says:

      Never tried railroad tracks yet!

    • Linz01511 says:

We take family Christmas pics every year and a few years ago we did them on the railroad tracks. They are some of my fav. pics. We printed them in sepia which makes them even more amazing. We shot at an angle so the tracks disappearing into the distance run at a diagonal in the picture.

Love Small Fry’s photo shoot! Esp. the ones in the road! :)

      • TerraD says:

Mine is sepia, too. I love it! Saw it hanging on the wall of his studio when I went in, and I had to have one of my own!!!

  31. Love these pics of small fry! She looks so much older in these! Oh, and love the pics from the TX photo shoot of our kids. Just finished ordering some prints. Thank you! ;)

  32. Krisha says:

I absolutely do NOT love the photos of Small Fry! She is simply NOT adorable!

  33. Susan says:

These are gorgeous! I’ve got to get (or make) at tutu for Little Miss No Name!!

  34. Susan Schnitzler says:

Wow…love these pictures of Small Fry! You’ve given such great ideas for my Goddaughter. I can’t wait to try!!

  35. Mrs. S. says:

This is so sweet! What precious pictures!

  36. Kerry says:

my kids are teenagers now, but my favorite place to take them to do photoshoots is an old piano factory down the road from our house. It sits on the river, old brick and peeling wood… photographers dream. Oh, and a set of railroad tracks runs past – these tracks LOOK old and potentially abandoned, but are still very much in use – and my favorite pics are of my kids holding hands walking down the center of the tracks away from me… Ahhhh… BUT – I always preface it by saying that my photo sessions are the ONLY time they are allowed to be on the tracks!!

  37. B says:

Jennifer, these are some of my favorite photos (of yours) SO FAR. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! :)

  38. What beautiful pictures of a precious little girl! :)

  39. Love those!! Would you believe it took me THREE girls before I took tutu pictures?? I know. Sad. But I was never a girly girl.
She’s just precious. What a treasure to have those pictures of her being a girl for her daddy. They look almost angelic (save for the road lines) :D
I also cracked up at your “milo and otis” comment!

  40. Kristen says:

Your little girl is such a trooper! I love your pictures!

  41. Dawn says:

Too cute! I think on the RR tracks would have been cute too!

  42. momofm@m says:

Love those ponytails. The first one of her on the street is my fave. Bet P.C. loved them!

  43. Lisa says:

Thanks for easing my guilt! I’m not a skilled photographer but more than once, for the benefit of a good shot, said, “No, that doesn’t hurt! Sit there and smile! ” Good to know I’m not alone!

  44. Lauren Kelly says:

Those pictures of Small Fry are not short of amazing!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  45. Lacy says:

The pictures with just the green grass and the clouds almost look fake they are so perfect. Beautiful!!

  46. SaraSkinny says:

I LOVE these pictures! She’s gorgeous and so are your shots. She really looks like a good combination of the two of you but she looks a lot like PC in that last picture. The road shots are awesome and I mean really how often does a car come down that road anyways?

  47. chesley says:

so so cute!!! how oh how do you get such a blue sky in what appears to be lots of sun??? please share! i’ve been trying to figure it out :-) !

    • mckmama77 says:

I use a really nice UV filter on my lens and it helps to get AMAZING blues in the sky. Hope that helps!

      • Kym says:

Could you possibly tell us exactly which filter you use? I’m looking into buying one but I’m not sure if I will get skies that blue from a $130 filter or if I need a $300 one. I’m just SO tired of blown out skies!

  48. Jen L. says:

    She is a beauty!!

  49. It is amazing what we will not ask our children to do!

But sun, bugs, and prickly grass was worth getting such darling photos…tell her great job! Kim

  50. Shannon Cox says:

I looooooooove this post!!! Her hair all done up is SO CUTE. I can’t get enough of her :) and, oh, your friends are SO lucky to know THE name :) I can’t wait to hear it!

  51. Julie says:

Reminds me of my hubs favorite (and only) George Lopez quote: Let
im play in traffic! He’ll learn! (said in a spanish accent.) he he.

Such cute pix, I love the colors!

  52. Jasmine says:

Ohhh… my fav is the one of her on the road, facing away from the camera in her ballet pose. So beautiful!

  53. Carey says:

Last week I was my first week to participate in “NOT ME”, Monday! It was so fun and I was looking forward to doing it again all week. Thanks for the inspiration.
    With Joy, Carey

  56. Bonnie says:

I’m so glad that you didn’t take Small Fry out for a photo shoot on Father’s Day and that we didn’t have to view ADORABLE photos of her!!!!! Where did you get those pink shoes? Cuter than cute!
