All told, we raised $9,402.88 for Feed The Children. Amazing. 381 of you gave. Thank you!!!!! That is enough to sponsor one entire truckload of food and supplies. (And then some…I’ll let you know when I do about what exactly will become of the extra. I’m assuming it will go towards the beginning of another truck.)
We have heard all about the devastating floods in Tennessee. Seeing photographs of Opryland and areas my husband and I had recently visited was surreal and heartbreaking, as are all the stories of lost homes and property. A great number of you expressed an interest in having “our” truck go to Nashville to provide relief for some of the familes affected. We sure couldn’t think of a better idea than that. Chelsi at Feed The Children is already setting that plan into motion. Naturally, the logisctics are such that we will have to wait until the water subsides before the truck can head in, but as soon as that happens, I will let you know.
Many, many thank yous for being a part of this!! And an equal number of congratulations go to Tiphanie Gatgens. She wins the iPad!! Tiphanie and her husband recently had their second baby. Mr. Gatgens has been longing for an iPad, but it was not in the cards for them. Until today!
Of course, we all know that the real winners are the children and families in the Nashville area who are going to get a little pick me up to help them in the aftermath of the disaster they’ve lived through.
I’m so glad to “know” you guys.

flood, winners, a truck
May 4, 2010

My daughter is a student at Belmont University in Nashville, and she and a friend went to a street nearby that had experienced flooding and asked the people who were in the process of salvaging what they could from their homes what they could do to help. They told them they needed boxes to pack their things in so the girls went “dumpster diving” for boxes as well as asking at Kroger (where they were given approximately 50 boxes) and then headed back to the neighborhood and handed out boxes to those folks. Such a small gesture made such a big difference to those 6 families. Thanks for your part in making a difference for people in Tennessee!
I am so happy that the truck ended up going to Nashville. It seems like the media has kind of ignored the devastation there. I have so many friends there. They’ve had some property damage of varying degrees, but thankfully are safe and will be able to put the pieces of their life back together rather easily. So many others were not as fortunate.
So glad to have found you “MckMama” and to be able to support to the many wonderful things your family does.
I contributed to this, but tonight I am extra grateful for you pooling your resources via readership to make this happen. I just found out that my childhood best friend, who was like a little sister to me lost everything in the flood. They had already lost so much, their house exploded in a terrible accident a year or two ago and they were living with her parents while they saved up for their own place again. That’s two grandparents, two siblings, my friend and her husband and their two children all living in one house. And now everything for all of them is gone. I plan to do anything and everything I can to help them, but I am extra grateful for those that contributed to the truckload of food heading there.
wow, just read this…thanks for sending help to Nashville. I helped clean-up at a trailer park the other day and was touched by a mom and her 3 little girls who had lost everything. The only thing she was asking for was milk to feed her baby. Thank you for thinking of Nashville and helping us through this tough time!
oh yeah…I’m from Nashville if you didn’t realize that, lol. Personally we are fine because we live on top of a hill, but the flood was less than a mile from us in Antioch.
So glad to hear about the support for Nashville. We live right outside Nashville in Franklin and you wouldn’t believe the devastation. What a blessing the supplies will be for this community.
