melt my heart

We are like the United States Postal Service, my MSC and I. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays us from the swift completion of our appointed annual trip to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch.

AppleOrchard4

That’s right, we didn’t let a little rain bother us. Or a little cold. Or a little snow. Okay, just kidding. It hasn’t actually snowed this fall in the Frozen Tundra. Yet.

AppleOrchard5

We braved the weather, donned matching outfits, and headed out. And this year, we didn’t even have to break in!

Near the pumpkins, all orange and rotund, I found the perfect place to photograph our children.

AppleOrchard6

Both individually…

AppleOrchard7

and, of course, together. After all, we did need the obligatory apple orchard/pumpkin patch photograph this season.

AppleOrchard8

So I positioned everyone by our wagon and started snapping away. I should have just stopped while I was ahead. The first photograph I got was cute…

AppleOrchard9

…and then they all went rather downhill from there. I must say, it was reminiscent of my efforts to photograph our three SC* at the pumpkin patch last year. Remember?

As you can see, Big Mac was not feelin’ it.

AppleOrchard11

Or maybe, just maybe…

AppleOrchard12

…he was feelin’ it.

AppleOrchard14

Yes, I think that was it. His adorably goofy personality shone through.

AppleOrchard13

And rubbed off on his siblings.

AppleOrchard15

And then MckNugget apparently decided to do a little mechanic work on the wagon.

AppleOrchard16

Right before he and Big Mac promptly disappeared from sight.

AppleOrchard17

Alllllrighty then. Moving right along.

We grabbed the umbrella (It really was raining, although it is hard to tell in these photographs.) and went to visit the sheep. And the huge pigs. Or hogs. Not sure what the difference is, if any. There was not a soul around at the orchard/patch, except for the sweet older lady in the Apple House who told us that we could just keep the four little apples we’d picked for free.

There were gourds and oats, cows and goats. Pumpkins and apples and…

AppleOrchard18

…more opportunities to try to get a group shot. Yoo hoo, kiddos! Look over here! I was determined to get a photograph of all four of them under the apple trees.

AppleOrchard20

It was not to be. Well, of course, I did get some photographs. But just a tiny handful (and none with children looking at the camera, mind you) before Big Mac got up, shot me a rather dirty look…

AppleOrchard19

…and walked away.

AppleOrchard21

And then MckNugget followed suit, of course. After all, monkey see, monkey do. But that’s okay. Small Fry and Stellan and I had fun sitting in the rain. No really, we did.

AppleOrchard22

And then I was hit with the stroke of brilliance to stick our MSC up on something they couldn’t get down from. Because that’s just the kind of mother I am.

AppleOrchard1

Ahhh, now that’s nice. (But don’t go getting any ideas. None of these are the photo I got recently for our Christmas cards! Can’t go sharing that now yet, can I?!)

And with that, we wrung out our clothing, finished up our apples, waved goodbye to the apples, pumpkins, lady and animals, and went on our merry way.

But not before one final display of affection.

AppleOrchard2

Awww, my wet, cold, apple eating children who don’t pose very well for photographs just melt my heart.
